Geelani calls for Sopore shutdown on Sunday

Srinagar, Jan 4: Paying rich tributes to Sopore martyrs on their 20th anniversary, the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for complete shutdown in Sopore town on January 6 (Sunday) to commemorate the anniversary.
Geelani, who is currently in New Delhi, appealed the religious heads and clerics to pray for the martyrs and stressed upon the Amnesty International (AI) to impress New Delhi to initiate inquiry in the incidents of massacres allegedly perpetrated by armed forces in Jammu Kashmir.
Disapproving all shortcut and patchwork solutions to the Kashmir tangle, Geelani, according to Hurriyat statement, said; “The problem is related to 15 million people. The rulers of New Delhi are aware about the fact that people in Jammu & Kashmir have never accepted their supremacy and rule, nor they will withdraw their demand and freedom struggle at any cost. They are denying the facts and overlooking the reality.”
Geelani reiterated that Kashmir problem is not an issue like Sir Creek and cannot be resolved through bargaining. “It is related to our destiny and there is no way other than resolving the problem as per the aspirations of people,” he said.
Castigating the attitude of authorities in Delhi, Geelani said, “They lack foresight and are desperate enough to solve the problem by adopting cosmetic approach. “Policy makers in New Delhi have not learnt any lesson from their mistakes and they are bent upon to muzzle the voice of the people to maintain their supremacy,” he said.
