Geelani justifies poll boycott call

Geelani reiterates shutdown call for North Kashmir on May 7

Reiterating his strike call for May 7 in North Kashmir, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, Sunday urged people to stage protests after evening prayers on May 6 against the elections.
North Kashmir will go to polls on May 7. In a statement, Geelani said “people of North Kashmir should follow the South and Central Kashmir and completely boycott election.” “Elections don’t suit the oppressed and helpless people. People should not vote for those whose hands are soaked with the blood of martyr’s like Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, Muhammad Afzal Guru and hundreds of others,” he said.
Geelani said “the pro-India parties are seeking votes for water, electricity and roads and later New Delhi projects it as a referendum in favour of India.”
Meanwhile, on the directions of Geelani, a Hurriyat delegation headed by Muhammad Shafi Lone visited the residence of slain Bashir Ahmad Bhat of  Gratabal, Nawakadal and paid glorious tributes to him besides expressing sympathy to the bereaved family.
