Kashmir observes Shab-e-Me’raj

Devotees throng Hazratbal shrine for night-long prayers

Shab-e-Me’raj‚ the night when Prophet Muhammad (SAW) ascended to the highest level of heavens‚ was observed across Jammu and Kashmir with religious fervor.
Thousands of devotees from across Kashmir thronged Hazratbal shrine here, housing the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), to join night-long prayers.
Reports said a fleet of vehicles from the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) ferried devotees to and from the shrine, especially from far-flung areas of Kashmir. 
Markets in Hazratbal wore a festive look, with dumpling makers and other vendors doing brisk business.
Reports of Me’rajAlam celebrations were received from across Kashmir with biggest congregations held at JenabSahabSoura, Asar-e-ShariefShehriKalashpora, Ka’aba Marg, Asar-e-ShariefBaramulla, AhamShariefBandipora and other places.
Religious scholars in their sermons highlighted the importance of the night and its blessings. They also highlighted teachings and various aspects of the life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Governor NN Vohra, Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul, Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra and the members of the council of ministers greeted people on Shab-e-Me’raj.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and the party president Mehbooba Mufti also felicitated the people on the auspicious occasion of Shab-e-Me’raj.
