We are part of India, says Farooq Abdullah

U-Turn | ‘Never said Kashmir will secede if 370 goes’

In a complete U-turn, National Conference (NC) president, Dr Farooq Abdullah Thursday denied having ever said that “Kashmir will part ways from India if BJP comes to power and if Article 370 is tampered with.”
“Don’t put words in my mouth. I have never said Kashmir will secede from India if BJP comes to power. We are part of India and Article 370 guarantees special status to JK under Indian constitution,” he said while talking to reporters after having a closed-door interaction with youth.
Refusing to comment on the ongoing row over Article 370, Dr Farooq said; “I have nothing to say on this. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has clarified everything on this issue,” he said.  To a query whether NC would launch an agitation if Article 370 is revoked, NC president said: “Who said it, I never said it. I didn’t say anything.”
Pertinently, during campaigning for recent LokSabha polls, NC president launched an anti-Modi and anti-BJP tirade and even went to the extent of saying that “Kashmir won’t remain part of India if Article 370 is tampered with and if BJP comes to power at the Centre.”
