Director Health Kashmir among 3 officers booked for ‘sexual assault’

Police files case after staff nurse cries ‘molestation’

Minister says will order probe

Police have booked three senior officers of J&K’s Health department including Director Health Services Kashmir for allegedly molesting a nurse at a working place here. The Government is mulling an inquiry into the incident.

A case has been registered in Police Station ShaheedGunj vide FIR No 46 under section 354 (molesting a woman at working place) of the CrPc against DHSK DrSaleem-ur-Rehman, Chief Medical Officer Anantnag (Islamabad) DrNazirShadad  and BMO Saller (Anantnag), Dr Arshad Tak.
Officials at PS ShaheedGunj said a nurse, working in the Health department in South Kashmir, approached them Thursday evening with a complaint of molestation against these officials. “We received the complaint and registered a case. Investigation has been started,” a senior police official said.
Police said the incident, according to the complainant, took place in the office chamber of DrSaleem-ur-Rehman on Thursday afternoon.
Health & Medical Education Minister TajMohiuddin said he would order an inquiry into the allegations of sexual assault against DrSaleem-ur-Rehman. He said Commissioner/Secretary Health would probe the matter and submit his report to him.
Pertinently the incident has surfaced barely five months after a case of sexual assault was registered against former Minister of State for Health Shabir Ahmad Khan.

What FIR Reads
Local news agency CNS said copy of FIR with it reads that the CMO Anantnag informed the complainant that Director Health Services wanted to see her in his office chamber Thursday. “When I enquired from the Director Health Services why he called me, the Director caught hold of my hand and tried to touch my breasts. I tried my best to save myself but he threatened me of dire consequences,” the FIR reads, adding, “Three months before, BMO SallarDrArshidTak, CMO AnantnagDrNazirShadad in booze arrived at our quarter and tried to assault me sexually. When they failed, next day they leveled false charges on my husband and got him transferred. Not only this, they also transferred me. I knocked the doors of all political leaders but all in vain. I even approached Dr Farooq Abdullah who requested the concerned Minister to look into the matter. The Minister first called me to Jammu and then in Kashmir. The Minister told me and my husband that he can’t go against his own CMO and BMO. Being poor and un-influential, we both (couple) bore all hardships but today DrSaleem-ur-Rehman crossed his limits. I somehow managed to free myself and I appealed to the police to lodge a formal case against DrSaleem and other culprits.”
