Geelani, Mirwaiz call for shutdown today
Strongly condemning the killing of a youth in Sopore, the Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Monday called for complete shutdown across Kashmir on Tuesday.
Earlier, Geelani had called for shutdown in Baramulla alone. But he later extended the call for entire Kashmir after facing flak from people for limiting the strike call to Baramulla alone, reports said.
Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq strongly condemned the killing of Sopore youth, terming the act as “highly unacceptable.” He called for complete shutdown and protests against the killing on June 24 (Tuesday).
“The killing of innocent youth at Sopore by the trigger-happy forces is the outcome of the pro-forces statements of defence minister ArunJaitley and top army officers that have emboldened the forces on ground,” said Mirwaiz. He said now that the youth has been killed for none of his fault, the government would once again order an inquiry to rub salt into the wounds of his family members.
Meanwhile, senior Hurriyat (M) leader and media advisor of the amalgam, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam has been put under house arrest.
