Mercury rises but R&B fails to macadamise vital roads

Despite rise in temperatures, thought to be ideal for macadamisation, the concerned departments are yet to take measures to repair dilapidated roads in the valley, though patch work was carried out on some dilapidated roads to face lift them for welcoming Darbar Move.
 Various roads in Srinagar and other districts of the Valley are in dilapidated condition owing to the heavy snowfall and rains this year. 
 The stretch of highway connecting Srinagar and Islamabad often witnesses massive traffic jams especially at Panthachowk due to dilapidated road. “The road at many places including Panthachowk, Pampore, Awantipora, Bijbehara and Khanabal is dotted with potholes causing inconvenience to the commuters,” said Tassaduq Ahmad of Islamabad.
 The bad road is proving troublesome to the locals as well as to traders and other business holders as it takes hours to travel the destinations of minutes.
 “We have to face a lot of inconvenience due to the dilapidated condition of this important road as the potholes remain waterlogged for days together,” said Shabir Ahmad of Panthachowk.
 He said thousands of tourists are coming to visit Dal Lake and other tourist destinations via this road “but the condition of the road is leaving them disillusioned.”
 The interior and main link roads in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district are in shambles, causing immense hardships to local population.
 Muddy and dirty road leading to Dardpora, Arwani, Kunun Poshpora is full of big potholes. Strong resentment is brewing among the people against the failure of the administration to undertake repairs on the vital roads linking far off places and district headquarters with Srinagar. 
 “This road is in shambles and has ditches and potholes. Though the macadamization was done a year ago but the condition is same as it was before,” said Parveez Ahmad, a resident of Syed Abad Soiteng here.   
 Superintendent Engineer R&B, Satish Razdan said that developmental works would be taken up shortly. “We are expecting more increase in temperature and the macadamization on roads will be carried out shortly,” he said.
