Mirwaiz holds roadshow in LalChowk
Urges people, youth to make Friday’s rally successful
The Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday held a road-show in the heart of Srinagar, taking police by surprise.
Witnesses said Umar visited the Municipal Park at LalChowk here to review arrangements for the proposed rally on Friday to mark the 50 years of establishment of the Awami Action Committee (AAC). As soon as Mirwaiz appeared at the Park, hundreds of his supporters assembled there within no time. “The supporters were on bikes and vehicles carrying green flags and chanting pro-freedom slogans,” witnesses said.
The sudden appearance of Mirwaiz in LalChowk took police by surprise.
After reviewing the arrangements, Mirwaiz held a road-show at LalChowk. The rally passed through Regal Chowk here amid pro-freedom slogans and culminated at RajouriKadal in Old City.
At RajouriKadal, Mirwaiz addressed a public gathering and appealed people to make the Friday’s proposed rally successful. He called for maximum
participation of youth in the rally.
“The AAC has always fought for the rights of people of Kashmir. People associated with ACC have offered huge sacrifices to keep the sentiment alive,” he said.
At the Municipal Park here, the Mirwaiz was accompanied by Hurriyat (M) leaders including Hilal War, MushtaqSofi, Javaid Ahmad Mir and Shahid-ul-Islam.
Mirwaiz appealed people to assemble at Jamia Masjid on Friday and after the congregational Friday prayers, assemble at Municipal Park to mark the 50 years of AAC.
Mirwaiz said: “We had applied for the permission (for the rally) at DC Office Srinagar but there has been no response so far.”
Mirwaiz’s media advisor, Shahid-ul-Islam, said “we will anyway go ahead with our programme and make it successful.”
