‘Observe strike today, stage protests on Friday’

Geelani urges people – Gaza Bloodshed

Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday called for shutdown on July 17, Thursday, against Gaza killings and to mourn the death of seven persons in a tragic accident near HMT crossing here today.
Geelani has also reiterated his call for peaceful demonstrations on July 18 after Friday prayers against the air strikes in Gaza in which hundreds of innocent Palestinians including women and children were killed and hundreds others wounded.
Expressing deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives in the accident at HMT, Zainakote, here, Geelani alleged that the vehicles of armed forces do not follow traffic rules and usually cause accidents.
“The Nuzool-i-Quran Conference organized by Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir was stopped mid-way and cancelled when the news about the HMT accident reached the Hurriyat office. Geelani on the occasion prayed for peace to the departed souls. He later read out a resolution against Israeli terrorism in Gaza. The participants on the occasion supported the resolution in one voice,” Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar said, adding, “The resolution criticized the UN for its failure to take concrete steps for putting an end to this mass bloodshed in Gaza.”
In the resolution, Muslim countries were urged to suspend their respective memberships with the UN for the time being in protest against the inaction of this institution. They were also asked to end all diplomatic ties with Israel and ban the import of products of Israel in their countries.
The resolution also termed as disappointing the role of Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and Arab League on air strikes in Gaza.
