6 youth injured in clashes amid complete shutdown

At least six youth, five Central Reserve Police Force personnel and three cops were injured in violent clashes in Kaimoh area of this South Kashmir district on Sunday. A complete shutdown was also observed in the twin districts of Kulgam and Anantnag (Islamabad) to protest the killing of a teenager by government forces in Kaimoh, here, yesterday.
Suhail Ahmad Lone, a class 9th student of HawooraMishpora village, was killed when CRPF men, according to witnesses, opened fire on pro-Palestine protesters in Khudwani area of Kaimoh in this district. The Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani had called for shutdown in the twin districts against the teenager’s killing.
Reports said since early this morning, people in Kaimoh town and its adjoining villages of Khudwani and Redwani staged protests against Suhail’s killing. “The protesters fought pitched battles with police and paramilitary personnel who were deployed in strength to thwart attempts of protests,” witnesses said.
They said as youth pelted stones on the forces, the latter retaliated by resorting to baton-charge, aerial firing and tear-gas shelling. “The forces also fired rubber bullets to quell the protests, but to no avail,” the witnesses said.
One youth was critically injured as he was hit by a tear-gas shell in his head. “The youth was identified as AdilMuzafer of RedwaniGhat, a class 11th student. He is being treated at district hospital, Kulgam,” said a doctor there, adding, “His condition is stable.”
Reports said another youth identified as Showkat Ahmad of Nawbal, aged 16, was hit by a rubber bullet in his throat and is being treated at Sub-District hospital Kaimoh. “The other injured include AbidBadroo of Kaimoh, Asif Shah of RamporaKaimoh, ArifBhat of RedwaniPayeen; Mehrajudin of Frisal and Adil Ahmad of Redwani. They are being treated in sub-district hospital, Kaimoh,” reports said.
Reports said at least five CRPF men and three policemen were also injured in the clashes.
The situation in the area was tense and the clashes were on when this report was filed. “The additional deployment of police and paramilitary forces has been made to control the situation,” an official said. 
The area witnessed complete shutdown to protest the killing of the teenager. Shutdown was also observed in neighboring Kulgam town. Shops remained closed and traffic was off the roads.
People in District Hospital Kulgam beat up a local and damaged his motorbike after he was found filming the injured in the district hospital. 
Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in the neighboring district of Anantnag (Islamabad).  Shops remained closed and traffic off the roads.
