Police likely to arrest Kukka Parray’s son in assault case

Jammu and Kashmir Police is likely to arrest Imtiyaz Parray, son of slain counter insurgent Kukka Parray, for allegedly assaulting a lady doctor at Community Health Center (CHC) Hajin.
Police had booked Parray, who is also associated with Congress party, in the assault case following a complaint by the female medical officer on Wednesday. The FIR (83/2014) had been lodged in police station Sumbal.
“We are investigating the case thoroughly and today we have recorded the statements of witnesses. We will arrest the accused soon after we complete the investigation,” SHO Hajin Ateequllah told Rising Kashmir.
Some of the witnesses had told police that the altercation between the doctor and Parray started after she refused to accompany him for a medical checkup of his mother.
“There is a counter FIR (84/2014) registered against the lady doctor also,” the SHO said.
The doctors said a mob lead by Parray allegedly assaulted and dragged her in the hospital after barging into her room while she was having dinner.
“Earlier, I was on emergency duty when Parray’s sister forced me to accompany her to see her mother. However, I refused because it was not possible for to leave the emergency room. It prompted her to call her brother and other people to attack me. Parray pushed me, assaulted me and dragged me by hair,” she alleged.
While as Parray alleged that the lady doctor abused him and his slain father referring to him as Ikhwani.
“She told me she will not cure a member of Ikhwani family,” he had alleged.
Meanwhile, Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman told Rising Kashmir that the department is also pursuing the case seriously.
“We are supporting the victim both officially and personally. This kind of behavior against doctors cannot be tolerated,” he said.
“No doctor can move out of hospital premises during duty hours. It is obligatory for the attendant to bring the patient to the hospital. And it is also up to the personal will of a responsible doctor to decide whether to accompany anybody or not,” he added.
Dr Rehman said he had sent a proposal to government to bring ordinance wherein if any person found manhandling a medico shall be deemed a non-bailable offence.
“Immediately, after the incident I instructed my officers to prepare the proposal which included the draft of the Act. We are hopeful government will bring the Act in this assembly session,” he said.
