Sawlakote project may miss deadline
With the Detailed Project Report submitted for approval to Central Electricity Authority of India (CEAI) hanging fire for last one year, the ambitious 1856 MW Sawlakote project proposed on Chenab River is likely to miss the 2021 deadline set by the state government for completion.
The officials of Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation (JKPDC), the executing agency for the project, while confirming that the approval of DPR from CEAI is yet to come, said that the project may not be completed as per the timeline.
“We have submitted the DPR in 2013 but the same is under appraisal of CEAI,” an official of JKPDC told Greater Kashmir. However, he added that this is normal process and it will take some more time.
“The project cannot be completed exactly as per deadline but will take more years to complete,” he said.
JKPDC was earlier expected to submit the DPR by December 2012, a deadline it failed to meet as the capacity of the project was enhanced from 1200 MW to 1856 MW.
