Crackdown on WhatsApp: 3 booked for ‘spreading rumours’
Police have booked three WhatsApp group administrators for allegedly spreading rumours.
“Police have registered FIRs under section 66/IT Act bearing numbers 163/2014 in Police Station Budgam, 217/2014 in Police Station Baramulla and 198 /2014 in Police Station Pulwama and booked three WhatsApp group administrators Javed Ahmad, Syed Tahir Bukhari and Raja Hilal from Budgam, Baramulla and Pulwama respectively for airing rumours and fabricated information that could create disturbances and vitiate peace,” a police spokesman said.
“Investigation into various updates and posts that have surfaced on the WhatsApp and other social networking sites is going on,” the spokesman said.
