Politicians raising AFSPA bogey to divert attention from real issues: BJP

BharatiyaJanta Party (BJP) Tuesday lashed out at various political parties for raising the issue of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) ahead of the elections, saying it was done just to divert public attention from real issues.
In a statement here, the BJP spokesman KhaildJehangir said, “People who are raising the bogey of AFSPA couldn’t do anything when they were in power. Now they are raising it to divert attention from the real issues.”
Jehangir said that politicians who are claiming to be the sympathizers of people were instrumental in getting AFSPA extended to the state. “Memory of the masses is not that short lived and people are well aware of their designs. They cannot take Kashmiris for a ride by adopting double standards,” the BJP spokesman said.
He reiterated that politicians cannot revoke AFSPA as it is the security agencies which have to take a final call over the issue. “BJP doesn’t believe in rhetoric. Our policy is clear and we don’t want to take people for a ride by raising hollow slogans and by telling them that we would revoke AFSPA,” Jehangir said.
