Days before first phase, 60 youth held in Bandipora, Gbl districts

Same people who created problems in General Election: IGP Mir

Four days ahead of first phase of Assembly elections, police in last few days have arrested 60 persons particularly youth from the twin districts of Bandipora and Ganderbal.

Admitting that some two dozen youth have been arrested from these twin districts, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Abdul Ghani Mir told Greater Kashmir nobody will be allowed to disrupt the electoral process in Kashmir. “These are same people who created law and order problem during last Parliamentary elections,” he said adding that among the arrested are persons who were running election boycott campaign. “Among the arrested are mostly stone throwers. The measure has been taken to instill sense of security among the voters.”
In the first phase scheduled to be held on November 25, three constituencies of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, Gurez, Bandipora and Sonawari will witnesses polling. While in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir people of two constituencies, Kangan, Ganderbal will exercise their franchise.
These youth have been arrested in raids by the police from different parts of Bandipora and Ganderbal district while police said that they are the same people who created law and order problem during last Parliamentary elections.  Police also said that the detained people are the former stone throwers.
Those who have been detained include pro-freedom activists and that the clamp down in twin districts has been continuing for the last two weeks.
