‘Private schools violate court directions’

Parents appeal higher ups

Sept-Oct Tuition fee:

Parents of students enrolled in different private educational institutions here Thursday complained that some private schools in Kashmir were violating High Court orders by collecting fees for September and October, waived off by the court after September floods in the Valley.

The parents alleged that they were asked to pay the fees and transportation charges for the two months, otherwise the students will face action by the school management.
The court, while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), had directed the schools in Kashmir not to charge any fees from the students in view of the devastating floods that hit the Valley in the first week of September.
Referring to the one of the reputed private schools of Gogjibagh here, the aggrieved parents alleged that the school was claiming that it was not governed by law of the land.
“The school authorities are saying that HC orders are not binding on them as they are not governed by the rule of law,” they added.
On October 30 this year, HC had directed private schools to adjust the fee of September and October, if taken from the students, in coming months of the academic session.
The aggrieved parents appealed higher ups to take immediate and necessary action under law against the violators.  G N Var, President J&K Private Schools United Front (JKPSUF) said that the HC orders were applicable only to few schools.
“Our schools are not party to that litigation. There are only few schools. However, we are ready to move Supreme Court in case any such order is invoked on us,” he said.
