Jammu records season’s coldest day

Jammu recorded winter’s lowest day and night temperature Wednesday after overnight dense fog engulfed the province and disrupted the air and surface traffic, officials said.

The low visibility due to dense fog forced authorities to delay scheduled  flights at Jammu Airport while foggy conditions affected railway traffic with many trains reaching several hours late at the Railway Station, they said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu Airport, Randeep told Greater Kashmir that some flights were cancelled and few delayed.
Meanwhile, passengers were seen at Jammu Railway station waiting for trains which were running behind schedule.
Met officials said Jammu witnessed season’s first foggy day which plunged the day temperature several notches below normal, making it the coldest day this winter, so far.
“The visibility early morning was almost zero but it improved in the afternoon. At 2:30 pm, the visibility up to 500 meters,” they said.
Met officials said due to dense fog, the minimum temperature dipped to 4.5 degree Celsius and maximum to 10.2 degree Celsius in district Jammu, which was lowest in the region.
Banihal recorded maximum temperature of 18.8 degree Celsius and minimum of 1.8 degree Celsius, Batote recorded 17.1 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 5.3 degree Celsius minimum.
Bhaderwah recorded maximum temperature of 15.0 degree Celsius and minimum of 1.3 degree Celsius.
