PDP has entered into sell out and is speaking BJP’s language, says Geelani group

Taking a strong note over senior PDP leader Muzafar Hussain Baig’s assertions about the settlement of West Pakistan Refugees, Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani Sunday lambasted Baig, saying PDP has literally bowed down before BJP for the greed of power.

Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar before leaving for New Delhi said, “If NC’s founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah sold Kashmir for power, Peoples Democratic Party seems to have traded the honor and dignity of the state.”

“The fact is that the PDP has entered into sell out and is speaking BJP’s language. Baig isn’t an Islamic scholar who can issue fatwas. He may know the law the best but can’t give Islamic fatwas. He before issuing fatwa should consult the Islamic scholars,” he said.

Akbar said that Baig should recall that Jammu Kashmir has its own constitution and according to which no Indian citizen is allowed to settle, become permanent resident or voter of the state of Jammu Kashmir. “These refugees whose number exceeds five lakh, being from West Pakistan are not the permanent residents of Jammu Kashmir and cannot be given such status,” he said.

The Hurriyat (G) spokesman claimed Baig is appeasing BJP and RSS. “I can tell you that he is a part of conspires of India to destroy the existing social fabric of Jammu and Kashmir. The aim of this conspiracy of which the Baig seems to be a part is to change the demography of the state and destroy its Muslim-majority status. But people of Jammu Kashmir will never remain silent over these conspiracies being hatched at the behest of RSS and its allies,” he said.

“We also agree the settlement of Pakistani refugees is a humanitarian issue but if GoI wants to settle them on the humanitarian ground why don’t they settle them in other states of the India like Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan which do not have any special status,” Akbar asked.

He said that the refugees from West Pakistan are in no way residents of Jammu and Kashmir and will not be allowed to become permanent residents of the state at any cost.

Baig’s assertion came a day after BJP senior leader Nirmal Singh said that the issue of settlement of WPRs must be treated on humanitarian grounds.
