Provocative activities won’t be tolerated: Mufti

‘Action will be taken as per law’

Terming chanting of pro-Pakistan slogans and waving of Pakistani flags by supporters of Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani yesterday as “unacceptable”, Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed Thursday said such acts won’t be tolerated and action will be taken against them as per law.
“I cannot say what will happen. Law will take its own course. If anybody has committed a mistake, he will be dealt with as per the corresponding law,” Mufti told reporters on sidelines of a function, here.
He was asked if separatist leaders would be detained for hoisting a Pakistani flag and chanting Pakistani slogans during Geelani’s rally in Srinagar yesterday.
Defending his decision of giving permission to the rally, Mufti said, “As far as the public meeting is concerned, I think it is okay. As I say, democracy is a battle of ideas. They are free to have their own way, speak their own mind but something which is not acceptable (hoisting of Pakistan flag or raising Pakistan slogans) will not be tolerated.”
He, however, said hoisting of Pakistan flags and raising pro-Pakistan slogans “is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.”
“I think authorities have taken note of that. They have taken a video of what has happened. Law will take its own course, action will be taken,” he said.
Police had yesterday registered an FIR against Geelani, Masarat Alam, Bashir Ahmad Bhat alias Peer Saifullah and other separatist leaders for alleged provocative activities and hoisting Pakistani flag in Hyderpora.
However, BJP leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Kumar feigned ignorance about the ‘flag hoisting’ incident.
“I don’t know about it. I have heard that something is being shown on the TV,” he said.
Asked about killing of civilian by army in Tral town of Pulwama on Monday, Mufti said truth will come to fore for sure.
‘I am repeating my yesterday’s statement. The truth will be unveiled and things will be dealt with accordingly,” he asserted.
