Tehreek-e-Hurriyat member shot dead in Kashmir’s Sopore, Geelani calls for shutdown in Baramulla on Wednesday

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat member shot dead in Kashmir’s SoporeUnidentified gunmen Tuesday shot dead a member of Syed Ali Shah Geelani-led Tehreek-e-Hurriyat in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said.

Altaf Ahmad Sheikh, 35 was on his way to his office when gunmen fired several shots at him at New Colony in Sopore town – 47 kilometres north of Srinagar.

He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Sheikh was a member of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat led by octogenarian Syed Ali Geelani.

An employee in Jammu and Kashmir Health Services, Sheikh was a resident of Iqbal Colony.

Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar told us that Geelani is shocked over the cold blooded murder of Sheikh at the hands of “the Indian agencies”

“Geelani has called for a complete shutdown in Baramulla district on Wednesday against this barbaric act,” Ayaz said.

Earlier, Sheikh was shot at in New Colony Sopore, near his residence.

He was rushed to hospital however, doctors declared him brought dead.

Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar said that Sheikh was a Rukun (member) of Tehreek-e-Hurriayt.

Sources said that Sheikh’s father Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh is a well known face of Jama’at-e-Islami in Baramulla distrct.

No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack so far.
