UN chief hopes India, Pak will resolve differences amicably“Well, our hope in this, is that the leaders of the two countries will continue to engage with each other and try to resolve the situation peacefully and amicably and we will see where they go with that,” Ban’s Deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq told reporters here yesterday during a press briefing.
Haq said this in response to a question on tensions between India and Pakistan and whether Ban will call upon the two countries to engage in a dialogue.
US Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday talked to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed regional situation including the recent increase in tension between India and Pakistan.
Kerry made the call to Sharif soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to his Pakistani counterpart and greeted him on the eve of holy month of Ramadan.
India and Pakistan have been involved in a war of words recently with leaders from both sides exchanging sharp comments after Modi’s critical remarks about Pakistan during his Dhaka visit and in the wake of India’s military action in Myanmar.  (PTI)
