Highway reopens for one way traffic
One way traffic was Friday restored on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, which was closed due to landslides triggered by heavy rain.
“The stranded vehicles were cleared yesterday evening, whereas one way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu was restored today after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) removed the debris from the highway,” SSP Traffic National Highway, Sanjay Kotwal told PTI.
The men and the machinery of the BRO has been working day and night to make the highway motorable from both the sides, he added.
Landslides had occurred at several places between Banihal and Peera sectors of the highway.
There was also sliding of rocks and stones from mountain tops in other stretches, making the traffic movement on the highway risky, officials said.
Several passengers had a narrow escape after landslides triggered by heavy rains buried some vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar Highway resulting in its blockade yesterday.
