Member dies on 40th day of NYC protest
The indefinite hunger strike by members of the All Jammu and Kashmir National Youth Corps (NYC) Association completed its 40th day on Saturday.
The association said in a statement that the 40th day of its protest was marked by the death of one of its members, Raj Kumar of Kishtwar district.
He was on hunger strike and was admitted to a hospital last month. He was sent home after treatment and died at home, the association said.
The association members are on indefinite hunger strike to press the state government to fulfil their demands. Under the NYC scheme, hundreds of youth were deployed in various departments for two years.
After the end of the two-year period, the youth had not received any formal communication from the government and were now demanding renewed engagement with government departments.
