70 Vehicles seized in city center

70 VEHICLES SEIZED IN CITY CENTRETraffic department on Monday launched a drive against wrong parking in city-centre areas.
Authorities have banned parking on roadsides in city centre on the direction of the High Court. The drive was launched by Additional Mobile Magistrate Abdul Bari and SSP Traffic Maqsood- ul-Zaman.
The drive started from Rambagh bridge to Lal Chowk. Officials said around 70 vehicles were seized, and around 30 vehicles were fined for wrong parking and other violations on the busy roads.
“The drive has been launched to make traffic movement smooth. All the seized vehicles have been sent to traffic headquarter for safe custody,” they said.
During the drive, condemned vehicles dumped at Baba Dharam Dass Road were also seized.
Through public notices, the Traffic department has asked the shopkeepers and commuters to desist from parking vehicles in city centre areas including Lal Chowk, Residency Road, Polo View, Court Road, Hari Singh High Street, Jehangir Chowk, Maisuma, Budshah Chowk, Maulana Azad Road and Batamaloo.
Pertinently, in absence of proper regulation and wrong parking, Srinagar is witnessing massive traffic jams from past several months. The traffic mess has evoked strong resentment from the commuters particularly students.
“We appeal all business establishments, shopkeepers who are habitual to park vehicles in front of their shops to desist from this practice as it has become one of the major hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic,” SSP Traffic, Srinagar, Maqsood-ul-Zaman said
