600 athletes to take part in maiden women’s sports meet in J-K

Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Jahangir Mir today convened a meeting of officers here today to discuss and finalise the modalities for conducting the maiden national-level women sports competition in the state.

The meeting discussed transportation, boarding and lodging of the participants, medical facilities, sanitation in and around the venues and other related issues, an official said.
Mir said the event would be held from December 12 to 15 at the BSF Sports Stadium, Paloura, and indoor sports complex at the MA Stadium.
He said about 600 participants from 25 states would be participating in various sports disciplines, including athletics and table tennis.
Underscoring the importance of hosting the maiden national-level women’s competition in the state, Mir exhorted upon the officers present in the meeting to extend maximum cooperation to the department for smooth and successful conduct of the event.
He told the officers of the departments concerned to ensure that necessary arrangements were put in place on time so that the event was conducted successfully.
The DG said the four-day event was being organised under the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan.
