VDC is military mafia of communal forces: Hurriyat (G)

Seeks help of local, intl HR groups in disbanding VDCs
Slamming BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh for saying that Village Defence Committees (VDCs) won’t be disbanded, Hurriyat Conference (G) led by Syed Ali Geelani Thursday said the VDCs is a military mafia of a selected communal forces.
Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar said Nirmal Singh’s refusal to disband VDCs is very unfortunate. “His statement is a childish and no conscience person can give such an irresponsible statement”.
Stating that there is no comparison between a political party and the VDC, he said, “VDC is a military mafia of the selected communal forces, members of which are involved in murders, robbery, kidnappings, rapes, drug trade and other serious and grave crimes.”
Akbar alleged that VDC is an armed force beyond the control of state authorities and above the constitution and law of the state. “Although 196 criminal cases have been registered against the members of this force, these men continue to indulge in serious crimes. Hundreds of people have been affected by their terror”.
He said the purpose of creation of VDCs was to suppress the Muslims of Jammu division. “This force was created to repeat the situation of 1947 when lakhs of innocent Muslims were killed and forced to migrate from the Jammu area”.
“The control of the VDCs was handed over to Indian home ministry and the communal forces from the very first day and this force is still operating beyond the control of the state,” the Hurriyat (G) spokesman said.
He termed the silence of Mufti Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti as meaningful and said that father-daughter duo never speak against the plans and projects of RSS and have never objected to implementation of their communal orders.
Criticising NC for its biased approach, Akbar said the VDC was active and committing serious crimes in during NC rule but they never raised any question on their functioning and never spoke against them.
“When their own activist was killed by VDC members, they suddenly started to count their oppression and excesses and started to protest against this criminal force”.
The Hurriyat (G) spokesman appealed the local and international human rights organizations to take serious notice of the grave issue and support people of J&K in their demand of disbanding the VDCs.
