Parvaiz died of bullet injuriesPolice in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday confirmed that Parvaiz Ahmad Guroo died of bullet injuries sustained during clashes in Pulwama following the killing of a militant in a gunbattle.

After the death of Hizb militant during the encounter at Naina Batpora village, youths pelted stones on the forces, said a police spokesman.

“Security forces exercised maximum restraint and 17 security force personnel got injured – including Sh. Nazir Ahmed Ganai, DySP of 18 Bn. IRP who sustained multiple fractures in his leg. A police vehicle was also set ablaze by the unruly mob. During the uncontrolled rioting, three rioters got firearm injuries, out of which, one Parvaiz Ahmed Guroo resident of Naina later succumbed to his injuries. The condition of other two rioters is said to be stable,” he said.

A case FIR No. 10/16 and 11/16 stand registered in PS Pulwama and investigation is on, he added.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has called for a shutdown in south Kashmir areas tomorrow to protest the killing of a youth in firing during clashes.

Condemning the killing of Parvaiz Ahmad Guroo, Geelani said the use of bullets to break up a peaceful demonstration is “worst form of state terrorism”.

“While the army is killing our youths, the police is not allowing us to mourn our dead and killing those who shed tears on the deaths,” Geelani said in a statement.

He appealed people in south Kashmir to observe a complete shutdown on Thursday.
