Protests across Jammu over JNU row

Protests across Jammu over JNU rowBJP’s aggressive campaign against separatism symbolised by the events at Jawaharlal Nehru University has put the Congress on the back foot as the latter had defended those who stirred anti-national emotions in New Delhi.
A majority of the people in Jammu joined the BJP-sponsored demonstrations in solidarity against the “anti-national” elements. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had supported JNU students.
As the JNU controversy is directly related to “religious separatism” of the Kashmir Valley, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to target the Congress on the issue and it has been successful in garnering support from the people of Jammu.
The party today organised protest demonstrations at as many as 15 places across the Jammu region, from Kathua to Poonch, to target Congress leaders for supporting “anti-national” activities of JNU students. “It is a fight between national and anti-national forces. We will continue the fight to expose those who are supporting anti-India elements,” said BJP state unit president Sat Sharma. He said ongoing protests against the Congress was a part of the campaign announced by the party’s central leadership.
Sources in the BJP said the JNU controversy was being raked up in a systematic manner to arouse emotions.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Sangh Parivar, has also intensified its campaign in all educational institutions to create an atmosphere for the BJP to reap political benefits.
For the last three days, the BJP is holding protests in different areas of Jammu province and target Rahul Gandhi for allegedly supporting “anti-national” activities of JNU students. In this context the BJP also organised a “sadh budhi hawan” at Dogra Chowk in the city today.
During the event, the state BJP president lambasted Congress leadership for siding with “anti-national” forces. He alleged that the Congress was supporting students who shouted anti-India slogans on February 9.
