PDP legislature party to review alliance agenda

As suspense continues over government formation, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called its legislature party meeting tomorrow.
PDP legislature party to review alliance agendaThis was decided today after the general body meeting of the PDP Kashmir division where party president Mehbooba Mufti said the government could be formed within 24 hours but she wanted proper implementation of the “Agenda of Alliance” for the people of the state.
The PDP legislature party is expected to deliberate on government formation and discuss the progress made on the Agenda of Alliance and its implementation.
“The BJP is yet to respond on the issues concerning the Agenda of Alliance and once we are satisfied with the progress made on it, the government will be formed,” said a source within the PDP.
The main issues of concern for the PDP in the Agenda of Alliance are related to maintaining the status quo with respect to Article 370 and Article 35A.
The PDP also wants return of hydropower projects being held by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation to the state and liberal funding from the Central government.
Earlier, during the meeting, which was called to discuss the organisational matters, Mehbooba seized the opportunity to speak on the delay in government formation.
“It is a matter of 24 hours to form the government. But Mufti Saheb was not after power. If he would have been after power, we had the option to go with the Congress also, but he (Mufti) chose the path which was better for the people of the state and before forming the government, the Agenda of Alliance came into being,” Mehbooba said during her speech.
“Like we respect the Indian Constitution, the J&K Constitution must be respected,” Mehbooba said while sending a message to the Central government to not touch the critical things related to the special status of the state.
All eyes will be now on the PDP legislature party meeting tomorrow which will be held at Mehbooba’s Gupkar road residence. A decision with regard to government formation is expected.
People had high hopes from the PDP’s general body meeting today but nothing concrete has come out of it. Party leaders were asked to start a membership drive at the district level and strengthen the party.
