Soni questions coming together of PDP, BJP

Soni questions coming together of PDP, BJPAll India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Ambika Soni today asked as to what had transpired between the BJP and the PDP in the three months post the death of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, leading to change of heart without having anything new in the public domain.
The two parties need to explain to the people if there are any secret understandings, Soni said.
Addressing a meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) executive of Jammu province and the Mahila Congress Committee convention here, she asked the BJP as to what had happened to their slogan of preventing the PDP from coming to power. She said it exposed the party’s political opportunism and lust for power.
Soni said the BJP government at the Centre had indulged in the worst kind of anti-democratic campaign of destabilising and dismissing the duly elected Congress governments in various states after the BJP realised that it could not achieve its dream project of ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ through the elections.
Soni said it was unfortunate that the party (BJP) which always talked of high principles had indulged in anti-democratic tactics in bringing down the Opposition governments and stood exposed.
She said the Congress was committed to giving adequate share to women in every sphere of life. She added that the party had formulated policies in the country for their uplift and to ensure their participation in panchayats and Parliament. The Congress general secretary said the party would continue to strive in this direction.
She expressed concern over the continued incidents of violence against women in various parts of the country and said more effective steps were needed to check such incidents and ensure the safety and security of women.
Earlier, JKPCC chief GA Mir asked Mahila Congress workers to name a single promise fulfilled by the Modi government during its 23-month rule to which the gathering responded in loud no.
