Protests in Lolab; locals demand exile of ‘informer’Hundreds of angry protesters Wednesday demanded deportation of a local (informer) allegedly involved in the killing of a foreign militant at Warnow village in Lolab region of Kupwara district.
The protesters including women carried green flags amid ‘pro-freedom and anti-establishment’ slogans marched towards house of the accused.
However, to avoid any eventuality police reached the spot and are tried to control the situation. The situation remained tense as the protesters were adamant to burn down the house of the accused informer.
Reports said after Zuhr prayers hundreds of protesters from Warnow Lolab, a hamlet of Kupwara district, 123 km north of summer capital Srinagar and its adjoining areas took to the roads, cursing the informer who allegedly helped the troopers to kill the militant.
“The situation is tense. We are trying our best to restore order,” a police official said.
He said the an unidentified foreign militant was killed in a gun battle at Warnow Lolab on Tuesday evening after 18 RR and local SOG forces laid a cordon on while working on a tip-off.
Earlier, hundreds of locals ascending from adjoining areas, defied forces’ restrictions resorted to overnight protests and participated in the funeral of the slain militant, who was buried in dead of the night in a local graveyard.
SDPO Lolab Hilal Ahmad without confirming the reports said he was heading towards the spot to assess the situation.
