Over School’s closure; Akhter hits out at Geelani in open letter

Lashing out at separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for calling continuous shutdowns enforcing closure of schools in the Valley, State Education Minister Naeem Akhter has written an open letter to him explaining why education in the Valley should be pursued amid the current political uncertainty.
The Education Minister has written in his letter that he has been advising the teachers to read Geelani’s autobiography to understand the importance of education by learning about Geelani’s struggles from Sopore to Lahore in want of education.
“I plead guilty to having the belief that whatever our political future, it will have meaning only if our children receive education and are able to engage with the world on their terms,” Akther writes in the letter that was published in a local daily in the Valley.
The minister has been severely criticised by the separatist leaders for stressing on opening of schools in the Valley amid the ongoing agitation.
The minister has also written that it is only education that can save the children of the Valley.
“I wish every child of Kashmir outperforms my children who are very well placed in life. It has this ability to keep people out of harm,” the Education Minister has written in the last part of the letter.
The minister has said in his letter that education must be pursued amid the ongoing political unrest as it has put the future of 2 million students at stake.
