Employee Bodies join hands to oppose Govt Crackdown

Pledge support for suspended, axed employees for taking part in protests

With the government all set to act tough against government employees, various employees associations including all the three factions of EJAC Sunday formed a Joint Consultative Committee to oppose the move.
A secret meeting of leaders of various employee associations took place at an undisclosed place in Srinagar, said sources. “The meeting was attended by the leaders of all three factions of EJAC. The leaders of EJAC factions led by Abdul Qayoom Wani, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and Ajaz Ahmad Khan participated in the meeting. The leaders or representatives of all other major employees associations also participated,” sources privy to the meeting told local news agency KNS.
They added that the meeting held discussion on the prevailing situation in Kashmir, termination of employees, suspension of EJAC president Abdul Qayoom Wani and other issues.
“All the leaders unanimously decided to form and come under the umbrella Joint Consultative Committee (JCC). Under the banner of JCC, the leaders would issue their programmes to oppose the government move,” said sources.
In the meeting, it was decided to extend all possible support to those employees whose services have been terminated or suspended.
“All leaders made a commitment to be united against anti-employees moves adopted and executed by government. The leaders will meet again within a day or two and the programme as to how to oppose government will be made public,” said sources.
Pertinently, government has terminated services of 12 government employees for their alleged involvement in in anti-government protests.
Six leaders of Employees Joint Action Committee including the president of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), who were detained here on Saturday after police foiled their meeting, were shifted to Kupwara and Baramulla sub-jails.
