Hurriyat appeals to India, Pakistan to de-escalate LoC tension

The Hurriyat Conference, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has expressed its concern over the escalation in tension along the Line of Control, urging both India and Pakistan to take steps to de-escalate the situation. In a statement today, an All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesman said the damage to life and property of those people living along the border was worrisome and appealed to New Delhi and Islamabad to take immediate measures to de-escalate tension.
Stressing that Kashmir “dispute” was the main cause of confrontation and tension, the Hurriyat said the two countries should create an environment which could pave way for the resolution of the dispute keeping the wishes and aspirations of people of Kashmir in mind and arrive at a solution which would be acceptable to all.
“The environment of hostility and mistrust among the people of the region was in favour of none and would only keep people underdeveloped and in stress,” it said. “While crushing the ongoing people’s uprising, the ruling class has shown its political vendetta against the freedom-loving people of Kashmir by unleashing police and military might on them,” it said, adding that in every nook and corner of Kashmir, people were being subjected to all kinds harassment and humiliation while being beaten up abused and arrested.
