Already ailing Power Supply severely affected due to snowfall across Kashmir Valley

Hopeful to restore power supply once snow stops: PDD

Power supply was severely affected across Kashmir valley following heavy snowfall on Friday. While people were already grappling with massive curtailment and unscheduled power cuts, snow has compounded their problems.
Speaking to Kashmir Post, Chief Engineer, Power Development Department (PDD) Shahnaz Goni said: “North Kashmir is worst hit as Lower Jhelum supply line has been affected due to snowfall. In other parts of Kashmir we are hopeful that power supply improves once the snow stops.”
Goni said the department did not receive reports about any major fault in the supply line as it was able to save 33 KV supply line till Friday evening. “However, there were many minor faults due to which supply gets fluctuated. Our employees are on job to repair the damages so that power supply is restored,” she added.
In Srinagar city most areas were without electricity when this report was filed. The essential line which supplies electricity to hospitals and other emergency services also witnessed fluctuation.
In North Kashmir’s, Bandipora and Baramulla districts groped in darkness since Thursday night. The remote villages of Bandipora and frontier district Kupwara have been without electricity since Thursday morning.
In central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, several villages including Saloora, Dudherhama, Wanipora, Wahidpora and Bamlora complained of power shutdown for the last 24 hours.
In south Kashmir, most of the villages of Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Kulgam were without electricity. People in Shopian said several electric wires and poles have been damaged due to heavy snowfall.
