Joint resistance calls for shutdown today, protests after Friday prayers

The joint resistance leadership Thursday called for a complete shutdown on March 10 against the civilian killing in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and asked people to protest after Friday congregational prayers.
The joint leadership—Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik expressed grief over killing of a student Amir Nazir Wani at Padgampora, Pulwama.
According to a statement issued here, the trio urged people to observe complete shutdown on Friday and hold peaceful protest after Friday prayers.
While paying tributes to slain youth of Padgampora, Pulwama, the leaders said that the “tenacious and stubborn attitude of Indian authorities is the root cause of uncertainty and bloodshed in the region.”
“Targeting unarmed and innocent civilians, these brutalities (are) tantamount to war crimes,” the leaders said while condemning the forces’ action against innocent civilians.
“These brutalities won’t break our resolve. It is an extraordinary valour depicted by civilians that despite dangers involved near encounter sites they fearlessly display their passion for brave hearts,” the statement said.
“It is not a law and order problem. It is people’s movement and one and all share their responsibility towards Kashmir issue,” the leaders said.
“Instead of accepting the ground realities, forces are killing civilians.”
The leaders said that damaging properties has led to complete chaos and political uncertainty in the state. In a joint address to Indian leadership, they said: “New Delhi must listen to the screams of people, honour their aspirations and stop using military might against innocents.”
