Syed Ali Geelani reiterates call for election boycott

Separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday reiterated the call for boycotting the upcoming parliamentary elections in two constituencies in Kashmir.
In a statement, Geelani said: “All pro-Indian political parties, including PDP, National Conference, Congress, People’s Conference and Awami Ittihaad Party, don’t differ much as they are following the same agenda.”
Geelani accused the NC of “deceit and drama” and of “harping the same tune as PDP was doing while in opposition”. “Their rhetoric about autonomy, self-rule and parroting mantra for freedom are just a political gimmick. However, their main aim is to grab power corridors.” He said the parties were “canvassing for the provisions of good governance and basic amenities. However, India portrays these elections as a consent, acceptance and verdict of people.”
Geelani also criticised the state authorities for shifting separatist leader Yasin Malik to jail and placing Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other separatist leaders under house arrest.
