Student groups clashed in Jammu varsity, five injured

At least five students were injured in a clash between two groups campaigning for the first-ever student elections at the Law School on the Jammu University campus today.
According to the eye witnesses, Urvashi Raina, an ABVP candidate for the election to class representative, was pasting an election post on the wall that was objected by another student from the NSUI, which led to a heated argument. The NSUI student is the son of Congress leader Surinder Singh Shingari.
Soon the verbal arguments took an ugly turn and a clash broke out between the two groups, resulting in injuries to five students. Medico-legal cases were registered at the Government Medical College, Jammu.
Meanwhile, the university authorities remained busy till late this evening to defuse the tension on the campus by trying to bring a “peace deal” between the two groups.
The maiden university elections will be conducted in two stages, wherein department representatives (DRs) and class representatives (CRs) will be elected as executive members in first stage on September 25.
These elected student representatives from each department will form an electoral college, who will elect the office-bearers of the Students’ Union, the voting for which will take place on October 6 and the result being declared the same day.
