With two more deaths due to Swine Flu, toll rises to 25

Two more patients have died of H1N1 influenza at SKIMS, Soura in last past two days, taking the death toll by Swine Flu to 25 this season.
Sources in SKIMS told Kashmir Post that a woman hailing from Srinagar died of H1N1 influenza in the hospital this morning.
“She was a case of comorbidities and had tested positive for H1N1 influenza earlier this week,” they said.
Another male patient hailing from south Kashmir died of influenza on Wednesday afternoon.
“He was also suffering from malaria and had acute kidney injury,” said the sources.
With the fresh deaths, the death toll due to H1N1 influenza in Kashmir has risen to 25 this season, which is highest so far.
Before 2017, the highest number of Swine flu deaths was reported in 2015 when 21 people died of the flu in both divisions of the state.
Doctors at SKIMS said about 135 positive patients were admitted in the hospital and 105 of them were discharged.
SKIMS is the only institute treating H1N1 patients.
“Six H1N1 positive patients are undergoing treatment at hospital’s isolation ward at present,” doctors said.
In November last year, SKIMS authorities had predicted a rise in H1N1 influenza cases due to prevailing cold weather conditions in the Valley.
