Winter Sports Club beat Friends Pashkum, lift ice hockey cup

The Winter Sports Club, Shakar Chiktan, got the better of Friends Pashkum by seven goals in the summit clash to clinch the 10th CEC Ice Hockey Cup held in Kargil today.
The skipper of the winning team, Shabir Shah, was adjudged the ‘man of the match’ for his outstanding performance and awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
The tournament was organised by the District Youth Services and Sports Department at the Khree Sultan Choo Ice Hockey Rink, Kargil, wherein in eight teams participated.
Asgar Ali of Friends Pashkum was declared the ‘man of the series’. The runner-up team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000.
Advocate Mohammad Amir, acting Chief Executive Councillor, Leh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Amir said the main aim of organising the event was to inculcate sportsman spirit among the youth.
He said the youth of Kargil were interested in opting for sports such as ice hockey, archery and horse polo as profession so that they could earn a healthy living in future. Amir further said the Leh Autonomous Hill Development Council had special focus on making the event popular in the country and keeping that in view, the prize money had been increased to Rs 50,000 for winners, Rs 30,000 for runner-up and Rs 7,000 consolation prize to each participating team.
The chief guest distributed certificates among the participants of the recently held Basic Ice Hockey Camp at Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium.
