Rain, Snow forecast for next 4 days across valley: MET

The Meteorological department on Tuesday issued an advisory for Jammu and Kashmir predicting moderate rain or snow over the state between October 31 and November 3, which could lead to temporary closure of highways.
The advisory issued by Sonam Lotus, director Meteorological department said a spell of light to moderate rain and snow is likely over higher reaches of the mountainous state from the night of October 31 to November 3, with maximum intensity on November 1 and 2.
The MET office said a fresh western disturbance is most likely to affect the state from Wednesday evening with moisture feeding taking place from the Arabian Sea.
“Under the influence of this system, moderate to heavy rain or snow is expected at widespread places of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions,” the MET office forecast.
“Moderate snowfall is expected during November 1 and 2 on Mughal Road, Zojila, Sinthan Top, north Kashmir areas, and mountains of Ladakh, mainly Kargil district, which may lead to temporary closure of highways.”
Accordingly, district authorities of Kashmir Division including Leh and Kargil have been asked to advise people not to venture in avalanche prone areas during this period. The concerned Deputy Commissioners have also been asked to take all precautionary measures, make road clearance and power restoration top priority.
