November Academic Session Restored for Kashmir Schools: Classes 1-9 Revert This Year, Classes 10-12 Next Year

Omar Abdullah govt reverts to November academic session for Kashmir schools; November session restored for classes 1-9; 10-12 next year

Srinagar, Oct 30: Reversing the LG-led administration’s ‘Uniform Academic Policy’, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday announced restoration of academic session for Kashmir schools up to 9th standard.

Chief Minister J&K Omar Abdullah while speaking at the occasion said that this was the long pending demand from students and parents from Kashmir and winter zone of Jammu that exam schedule should be revisited, and bring it to the erstwhile position.

He said today I am thankful to Minister of Education Sakeena Itoo who tabled the resolution before the cabinet that approved the same. “Till class 9th the exam schedule will be reverted back to erstwhile scheme from this year. The winter zone exams will now be held before winter vacations,” Omar Abdullah said.

The chief minister said that due to board exam issue, the exam schedule of 10th, 11th and 12th classes have not been changed from this year. “But I assure students that their schedule of exams will also be changed from next year,” he said.

The chief minister hoped that the decision will imprint positive impact on ground and provide sigh of relief to students and their parents.

Education Minister Sakina Itoo said that the academic session has been restored to November-December up to 9th standard from this year. “For now, we will restore the academic session back to November-December up to 9th standard. For students of 10th to 12th, academic session will be restored from next year,” she said.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration led by Lieutenant Governor in 2022 had issued orders for the implementation of a “uniform academic calendar” for both Jammu and Kashmir divisions “in sync with the higher education department and the rest of the country”.
