Coronavirus: J&K recorded 149 fresh positive cases and 7 deaths in 24 hours

Jammu Kashmir Thursday recorded 149 fresh COVID-19 cases that include 100 from Kashmir and 49 from Jammu, taking the infection tally to 5555.

Thursday cases include 25 from Budgam, Pulwama 21, Baramulla 20, Udhampur 16, Kathua 12, Jammu and Srinagar 11 each, Shopian 10, Samba seven, Anantnag four, Kulgam and Bandipora three each, Kupwara and Poonch two each, and Ganderbal and Reasi one each.
Of these cases, 38 tested positive at Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS Srinagar, which tested 1577 samples in the past 24 hours.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said the 38 cases include nine from Shopian, Pulwama eight, Srinagar six, Anantnag and Baramulla four each, Bandipora three, Kulgam two, and one each from Ganderbal and Budgam.

The coronavirus testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina Thursday tested 538 samples of which 24 samples, all from Budgam tested positive.

At the Bemina hospital, so far 484 coronavirus patients have been admitted of which 379 have been discharged while 101 are undergoing treatment.

The government said of the total 2,89,027 test results available, 2,83,472 returned negative and 5555 positive which include 2340 active positive cases while 3144 have recovered and been discharged including 230 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.

It said, so far, 2,46,798 persons had been put under observation including 40,067 in home quarantine, 2340 in hospital isolation, and 29 in hospital quarantine while 46,346 people are under home surveillance and 1,57,945 have completed their surveillance period.

In Kashmir, Kulgam has 653 cases followed by Shopian with 595, Anantnag 587, Srinagar 577, Baramulla 552, Kupwara 421, Budgam 289, Pulwama 282, Bandipora 251, and Ganderbal 65.

In Jammu division, Jammu district has 290 positive cases followed by Ramban and Udhampur with 201 each, Kathua 175, Samba 120, Poonch 107, Rajouri 72, Doda 63, Reasi 31, and Kishtwar 23.

Jammu Kashmir has so far reported 71 deaths to coronavirus of which 62 are from Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir reported seven COVID-19 deaths including five from Kashmir in the past 24 hours, taking the number of coronavirus deaths to 71, officials said Thursday.

Two deaths were reported at SMHS hospital on Thursday.
Medical Superintendent, SMHS Hospital, Dr Nazir H Chowdhary said one was an elderly man from Nawa Bazar area of Srinagar.
The deceased was admitted on June 16.

“He was a case of bilateral pneumonia and hypertension besides other ailments,” he said.

He said the other deceased was a 65-year-old man from Shopian, who was admitted at the hospital on Wednesday, and passed way Thursday morning.

A 60-year-old woman from Shopian died at Chest Disease Hospital, Srinagar on Thursday.

MS CD Hospital, Dr Saleem Tak said the woman was admitted on Wednesday.

“She was suffering from septicemia and hypertension. She was also COVID-19 positive and died today,” he said.
Two more deaths have been reported from Jammu division.
A 70-year-old Baramulla resident, who was admitted at SMHS Hospital on June 15, died Wednesday evening.

He had earlier tested positive for coronavirus.
The deceased was hypertensive and also had other ailments.
A 65-year-old woman from Tengpora Srinagar who was suffering from pneumonia also died Wednesday evening.

With seven fresh deaths, the death toll due to the novel coronavirus has soared to 71 in Jammu Kashmir that includes 62 from Kashmir.
According to the government, Srinagar has witnessed 16 deaths, Baramulla 12, Kulgam and Shopian eight each, Jammu six, Kupwara, Anantnag and Budgam five each, Pulwama two, and Bandipora, Udhampur, Doda and Rajouri one each.
