Geelani Reiterates Shutdown Call For Saturday

Urges People To Make It A Complete Success

The Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani has reiterated his shutdown call for Saturday against the supply of spurious drugs to Kashmir hospitals. The veteran separatist leader described shutdowns as the “only option available with Kashmiris to their register protest.” 
“Since innocents and common people are being subjected to worst kind of massacre through the dangerous weapons like pellet and pepper guns, the authorities have now resorted to genocide by supplying fake medicines to Kashmir,” Geelani said in a statement here.
He said, “Though shutdown calls do have an adverse effect, they are the only option to show resentment and register protest when human lives are at stake. The government of India and its forces are hell-bent to suppress the ongoing movement and even the heavy deployment of armed forces has been recorded in the Guinness World records. The presence of armed forces within close vicinity of populated areas has badly affected the residents and resulted in strain and stress among the masses. This has in turn increased the number of psychiatric patients.”
Terming the spurious drug supply to Kashmir as “a grave crime and genocide”, Geelani said innocent people are being killed through these fake medicines. “Kashmir has become a safe haven for the spurious drug trade and medicines worth millions of rupees are being consumed,” Geelani said.
Reiterating his demand for an impartial probe into the scandal, Geelani said the fake drug scam is “directly linked with the death of hundreds of children at the GB Pant Hospital in Srinagar and the former health minister Sham Lal Sharma and chairman purchase committee are obviously responsible for it.”
“A murder case should be registered against them and they should be brought to justice,” he said, appealing to all the people including transporters, traders, shopkeepers and state employees to make the strike call a complete success.
