Kashmir teens’ killing: funeral held amid curfew, pro freedom slogans
Hundreds of people on Tuesday morning attended the funeral prayers of two youths, who were killed yesterday in army firing, and held strong pro-freedom and anti-India protests here in Nowgam area of city outskirts.
Police handed over the bodies of two slain youth Faisal Ahmad and Mehraj-ud-din Dar on Wednesday morning. As soon as the bodies of slain reached the area, the locals took to streets and held protests despite strict curfew in the area.
Eyewitnesses said hundreds of people attended the funeral of the slain boys. The slain were later buried in local Martyrs’ Graveyard amidst protests. Soon after the burial, dozens of youth clashed with police and paramilitary Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) in the area who responded with heavy teargas shelling.
Residents said they were expecting thousands in the funeral of the duo but the strict curfew-like restrictions in the area restricted people of the others.
The clashes continued throughout the day.
Pertinently, police had registered a case under FIR no. 231/2014 under section 302 RPC against army’s 53 RR in police station Chadoora, a top police official said.
