MeT predicts rainfall from Apr 19 onwards

The Jammu and Kashmir is likely to get more rains in coming week as India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said fresh Western Disturbances (WD) are likely to hit JK from April 19 onwards.
While talking to us, Director, Meteorological Department Jammu and Kashmir, Sonam Lotus said that a fresh WD is likely to hit the state and other adjoining areas on April 19, which could result in rains in the region with occasional gaps.
He said that originating in Arabian Sea, the WD could enter the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan and affect Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the mountain belts of Jammu province.
“Under the influence of these weather systems, light to moderate rain will occur at most places in Kashmir and Jammu region and at a few places in Ladakh region as well,” he said.
He also predicted that rains, light to moderate and thundershower would occur at many places over Jammu region and at isolated places in Kashmir region in next 24 hours.
Lotus also advised the farmers to avoid spraying of orchards and drain out excess water from their fields during these days.
He also said these weather conditions have the potential to trigger landslide and flash floods in vulnerable areas of the state like Srinagar-Jammu Highway.
