1975 Accord historic betrayal with people: Geelani
Reacting to the Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed’s statement that 1975 Indra-Abdullah Accord was an important event which revived the democracy in Jammu Kashmir, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani today rejected it as ‘figment of his (Mufti’s) imagination and far from reality’.
“The fact is that 1975 Accord has resulted in the killing of lakhs of innocent Kashmiris. It revived the democratic process in such a way that the entire Kashmir has become a major prison and a mega graveyard,” Geelani said in a statement today, adding that “The 1975 Accord was the historic betrayal committed by the then Kashmiri leadership with the people and sacred blood of martyrs. Besides, it was the worst example of the lust for power.”
“The claims and statements of people like Mufti Sayeed and those before him, cannot distort the historic realities. In 1938, these people made a sell out with the blood of the martyrs of July 13, 1931, by converting the Muslim Conference into the National Conference to join hands with Indian National Congress and attain power. In 1947, the leadership of National Conference and Indian National Congress played the drama of fake accession as a result of which not only people of Jammu Kashmir are suffering till date but it also turned the subcontinent into battlefield which witnessed three full scale wars and numerous other small wars including Kargil,” Geelani said.
“The incident of August 9, 1953, dealt a big blow to the NC-Congress bonhomie and the NC leadership challenged the so-called temporary and conditional accession for 22 years during which people of Kashmir suffered innumerable sacrifices. But in 1975, the same NC leadership surrendered before Congress and again made a sell out with its stand on plebiscite and people’s sacrifices to regain power.”
“Today we see the outcome of this Accord. Human habitations have been ruined, playgrounds turned into graveyards where thousands of martyrs are buried, draconian laws invoked to provide immunity to the armed forces for killing people, over 7,00,000 armed forces are deployed and kept in camps everywhere including civilian areas. Not only this, plans have been formulated and are implemented to change the Muslim majority status of the state,” Geelani said, appealing people not to be ‘misled’ by the claims and statements of pro-India politicians.
