Kashmir CM ‘booed’ with Aazadi slogans in Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had to face an embarrassing moment when a huge gathering confronted him outside the deputy commissioner’s office in Srinagar and ‘greeted’ him with pro-freedom slogans.

Chief Minister was accompanying Nasir Aslam Wani who filed his nomination papers from Amira Kadal assembly segment on Monday.

Eyewitnesses said as Omar along with Wani arrived at the office, the party supporters raised slogans in his favour, however, as he came out, the visibly irritated and angry people present there stopped and confronted him and raised anti-NC, anti-government and pro-freedom slogans.

Eyewitnesses said that in a bid to pacify the angry people, Chief Minister tried his best to convince them, however, Omar left the place after they showed no interest to listen anything from him.

As soon as Omar and Wani came out after filing nomination papers an old woman Fatima (name changed) from Shivpora in Batwara stopped the chief minister and did not allow him to reach his vehicle. The guards of the CM, however, managed to give him a safe passage and he entered his car.

In the meantime, the youth already present there shouted pro-freedom slogans “Hum kya chahte azadi”, and also shouted anti National Conference slogans. The protesters also raised their voice against the slow pace of relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims. The public alleged that during the last five years Omar government has only fooled the people and now they have also failed to give rehabilitation to the flood victims.

Later a woman and the youth came in front of the Omar’s cavalcade and did not allow him to move. However, Omar came down from his bullet proof vehicle and assured the lady to solve her problem. The lady narrated him that she lost everything in the floods and has no shelter to survivor. She also accused that her land of three kanals has been grabbed by one of the senior PDP leader. She grieved that though she brought the matter in CM’s notice but to no avail. The confusion remained there for quite some time. However, the security personnel managed the angry protesters and made possible, a passage for Omar.

LJP Candidate Attacked:

Meanwhile, unknown persons hurled stones at Lok Jana Shakti Party candidate and his supporters when he was trying to come out form Srinagar Municipal Corporation premises after filing his nomination papers. “We along with LJP leader Sanjay Saraf were present in SMC premises when unidentified person hurled few stones across the wall from outside,” an eyewitness said.
