Azad put JK on fire in 2008: Omar

‘Cong represents worst form of political opportunism’

Launching a scathing attack on senior Congress leader and former chief minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, National Conference working president, Omar Abdullah Tuesday accused the former of fueling communal hatred and regional frenzy in the state in 2008.

Addressing election rallies here, Omar said Ghulam Nabi Azad should recollect how he fuelled communal hatred and regional frenzy as chief minister of the state in 2008 and left Jammu and Kashmir in a situation of uncertainty and confusion.
He said NC never asked Congress for support in the formation of the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Accusing Congress of resorting to “worst kind” of political opportunism, Omar expressed surprise over the Congress leadership making late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and Dr Farooq Abdullah the subject matter of their campaign “when both of them are not around.”
“I am surprised to see Congress leadership stooping so low to target late Sheikh Abdullah and Dr Farooq Abdullah when both of these are nowhere in the election race,” he said.
Omar said the attitude of Congress and its campaigning in the current assembly election clearly indicates that this party has no regard for the stalwarts who have left the world, “and for vote bank politics Congress can go to any extent.”
Omar said Congress doesn’t care for people or the welfare of the State but its leadership is only concerned in sticking to the power by somersaulting from one extent to another. “People of Jammu and Kashmir are wise enough to reject the propaganda and uncalled for criticism of his government launched by Congress which has remained part of the government for the past six years,” he said.
Omar said Congress is circulating canards that NC led government did not implement Food Security Act in the State. “Had I implemented this Act in Jammu and Kashmir, I would have deprived 25 lakh people from getting rations”, he said.
Accusing PDP of resorting to hollow promises on development and employment, Omar said there are reports that PDP Paton Mufti Muhammad Sayeed is in great trouble in Anantnag assembly constituency.
