Govt in slumber over City’s dilapidated, bumpy roads

The dilapidated conditions of most of the roads, including some of the major roads in Srinagar have turned commuting into a nightmarish experience.
No re-carpeting or major repair work has been carried out on these roads since the devastating floods hit Srinagar City, people said.
Apart from the severely potholed condition of the roads, the Srinagar residents also suffer from growing traffic that has made the roads congested, while indiscriminate parking of vehicles on both sides of the roads has added to their woes.
“The condition of most of the internal roads all over the Srinagar city is pathetic. Bad roads make it difficult to drive on certain stretches. So every vehicle driver uses only the main road to avoid the bumpy journeys on bad roads, resulting in unbearable traffic jam in the city,” Bilal Ahmad of Qamerwari told KNS
Mushtaq  Ahmad, a rickshaw-driver from Batamaloo, said the busiest road between Qamerwari to Dalgate via Noor Bagh has bad condition ever and he claimed that the road has put them in difficulty to earn their bread and butter.“Because of the delay in repair of roads, not only the residents of Srinagar but also the commuters of different districts who come to this capital do not dare to use the bad roads,” said Dr Mushtaq of Bemina.
Habiibullah, a resident of Bemina  claimed that many roads in the area are in bad shape. “Repairing of the internal main roads in the area started a long time ago, and the development was stopped because of the negligence of the concerned authorities,” he alleged.
Moreover, roads from Qamerwari to Dalgate, Lalchock, Batamaloo, Jawahar Nagar and Lasjan need immediate repairs. Chief Engineer Roads and Buildings was not available for comment.
